Word of the Week - Everything New

“He who was seated on the throne said, ‘I am making everything new!’ Then he said, ‘Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.’” Revelation 21:5

As we begin a new year, we are given a powerful gift—the opportunity to start fresh and step into a new chapter of life, especially in our walk of faith. This is one of the things I love most about our God. While He is eternal, unchanging, and the same yesterday, today, and forever, He is also a God who delights in making all things new. In His Spirit, there is always life, renewal, and fresh hope, and He invites us to continually experience this newness in Christ.

Here are some ways we can experience the “New” in Christ in this New Year:

  • New life begins when we surrender our hearts and lives to Christ and are born anew by His Spirit. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old is gone, the new is here!” (2 Corinthians 5:17).  This is where true transformation starts. To experience the new things of God, we must get ourselves out of the way and allow Him to do His work in us. I experienced this personally nearly 25 years ago, and it changed everything—how I see God, how I see myself, and how I see the world. In Christ, I received a new identity, new priorities, new values, new hopes, and new dreams. This is the abundant life Jesus speaks of in John 10:10, and it is available to all who place their trust in Him.

  • New life comes through Daily Renewal of the Inner Life in Christ.  “Therefore, we do not lose heart, though outwardly we are wasting away, inwardly we are be renewed day by day.” 2 Corinthians 4:16-17).  Time, aging, and life have a way of wearing us down. Even with strong faith, the challenges, disappointments, and pain of living in a broken world can take a toll. God’s Word reminds us that the key to a healthy, resilient life is daily renewal—remaining connected to the vine of Christ (John 15:5). When we abide in Him, He provides the strength, perspective, and endurance we need to press on with faith, hope, and love, even in difficult seasons.

  • New Rhythms that Sustain a Renewed Life.  To maintain a healthy spiritual perspective, we need daily disciplines and rhythms that keep us connected to the Lord. Spending focused time with God—reading His Word for guidance, worshiping Him for encouragement, and talking with Him through prayer—keeps our hearts aligned and open to the new things He desires to do in us. These simple but powerful practices create intimacy with God and position us to experience continual renewal.  But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—whatever they do prospers.” Psalm 1:2–3

As we step into this new year, it’s a good time to take inventory and make intentional adjustments.   Even small daily/weekly adjustments can have tremendous impact over time.  As John Maxwell says, “You’ll never change your life until you change something you do daily. The secret of your success is found in your daily routine.” Like any relationship, our relationship with the Lord requires daily attention—and because it is the most important relationship in our lives, it deserves our greatest focus. When we align our daily rhythms with God, we create space for Him to make all things new.  I have decided to start something new this year and commit to memory one new scripture a week.  I already have many scriptures in my heart, but we can never have too much of God’s Word in our hearts.

Challenge Question:  What is one daily habit, rhythm, or discipline God may be inviting me to change or establish this year so that I can experience His renewal more fully?

Prayer:  Lord, thank You for being a God who makes all things new. As we begin this year, help us surrender what is old, tired, or misaligned and receive the fresh life You offer in Christ. Renew our hearts day by day as we abide in You, and guide us into rhythms that draw us closer to You and position us to flourish. We trust You to do a new work in us and through us for your glory!

I can’t wait to see what God has in store for 2026 as we Abide & Lead!
